About the Centre

The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre is built on the collective history of two extraordinary children’s mental health centres – the C.M. Hincks Treatment Centre and the Dellcrest Children’s Centre. In 1998, the two centres amalgamated to form The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre. We are a leading edge, non-profit children’s mental health centre offering a comprehensive range of innovative mental health services to infants, children, youth, and their families. 

 We Help

 The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre is dedicated to promoting optimal social, emotional, and behavioural well-being in infants, children, youth, and their families, and to contributing to the achievement of healthy communities. Each year, more than 8,000 children and families are helped through a variety of prevention, early intervention, outpatient, and residential treatment programs.

Tailored to each child’s needs, treatment at The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre can involve psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, child and youth workers, and early childhood educators. We also work directly in the community, offering prevention and early intervention programs in the local neighbourhoods of children and families we serve.

We Train and Educate

The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre - Gail Appel Institute is dedicated to helping develop the body of knowledge in the field of child, youth, and family mental health. We train and educate more than 3,000 mental health and human services clinicians and managers each year, preparing them to become expert community practitioners and future leaders.

Partially affiliated with the University of Toronto, The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre has a long tradition of preparing the next generation of mental health professionals for careers in child and youth work, nursing, psychiatry, psychology, social work, and early childhood education.

We Research and Evaluate

Hincks-Dellcrest Centre researchers regularly examine the causes of children’s social and emotional problems, while continuously improving services by testing and evaluating new treatment methods. We are dedicated to building the knowledge base in the field of children’s mental health, and are careful to ensure that Hincks-Dellcrest Centre services are consistent with what has been demonstrated to be successful.

Current areas of study include language disorders, adolescent depression, infant development, and the trajectory of illegal behaviour.

We Raise Awareness

The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre seeks to raise awareness of the prevalence and importance of children’s mental health issues in the community.

Mental health problems are common, and we believe that seeking help to prevent or overcome them is a sign of health and strength. The stigma about mental illness must come to an end.
