Brief Therapy Training Centres-InternationalTM (BTTC-I) is a centre that conducts therapy, training and research in Brief and Narrative Therapies. Located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, we are a division of The Hincks - Dellcrest Centre / Gail Appel Institute.
BTTC-I offers clinical services to the public through the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and training to professionals through the Gail Appel Institute. As a teaching organization there is an emphasis on providing high quality services, both to the children and families seeking consultation and to the professionals seeking training. Accountability to children and families seeking help and students receiving training is ensured through constant structured feedback from them regarding the quality of the services they receive.
The faculty consist of a local core team, adjunct research associates from The Department of Social Work, University of Toronto and The University of Western Ontario; Kings College. The faculty also includes adjunct international faculty from the United States and Australia. For more information and biographical descriptions please click on staff and faculty.
We offer various types of training, ranging from two-day workshop experiences, five-day intensives, year-long certificate programs (in collaboration with University of Toronto), international conferences and customized on-site training to fit the goals of your agency.
Evolving from a strong family therapy tradition, BTTC-I incorporates ideas from various therapeutic schools of thought including, but not limited to, Strategic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Integrative Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Although we honour the ideas from these therapeutic traditions, we are developing our own ideas through ongoing research and clinical practice.
We promote a collaborative approach that keeps the children and families consulting us at the centre of the therapeutic process.
