Jim
Duvall M.Ed., R.S.W. Jim Duvall is the Director of
Brief Therapy Training Centres-InternationalTM (a division of The Hincks-
Dellcrest Institute ), Director of Training at The Hincks-Dellcrest
Institute and is the previous Clinical Director of a children’s
mental health centre. He has been involved in the study of brief and
narrative therapies for over twenty years through clinical practice,
research and training activities. He and his colleagues at BTTC-I are
actively involved in developing a therapeutic approach that centres
the people seeking consultation in every step of the process. In collaboration
with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Social Work, he serves as
co-investigator in a research project that studies narrative ideas
and practices in training and therapy. The research team is presently
involved in writing a book addressing the application of narrative
ideas and practices in therapy and training. Jim’s most recent
publication is a chapter co-authored by Laura Beres, released in a
book with Sage Publication entitled Narrative Therapy: Making Meaning,
Making Lives; Chapter entitled; Movement of Identities: A Conversational
Map for Working With Sexual Abuse and Trauma.
He is also involved in assessing and applying the principles and methods of
Brief and Narrative therapies in a variety of context, which include health
care, child welfare, schools, children’s mental health, and organizational
change management. Jim serves as the Senior Editor of the Journal of Systemic
Therapies and the Journal of Canadian Counselling. He consults and trains with
various organizations in the United States, Canada and abroad and is noted
for his humorous, interactive and approachable style.
Other times Jim can be found boating on Georgian Bay, part of the Great Lakes
in Canada, or playing music with his friends.
