 The
Hincks-Dellcrest Centre - Gail Appel Institute was established in
1986 to respond to the challenge of improved mental health care for
children, by providing advanced training, research and community consultation
in the area of children's mental health. In 1989, the Institute building
opened, adjacent to The Hincks-Dellcrest Treatment Centre.
The Institute offers post-qualification Fellowships to graduates from psychiatry, psychology, and social work. Qualified practitioners come to the Institute to receive the additional advanced training they need in order to become expert community practitioners and future leaders.
Research is an essential activity of the Institute. In tandem with The Hincks-Dellcrest Treatment Centre, our Research department's studies help build the knowledge base for the field of children's mental health. Research findings are integrated with service delivery, and are frequently published and presented at conferences.

The Institute
has established a significant presence in Community Resources, by
assisting foundations and others to distribute funds in a planful
way and to participate more directly in program development and
implementation. Both professional and administrative services are
offered in the areas of our expertise, such as the national demonstration
project, TLC3 and the Bram Appel School-Based project in North Bay,
Ontario, Canada.
